Question 5 (7 marks)
The table below shows the sieve analysis results of three aggregate samples (A, B, C).
5.1 Work out the total weight of EVERY sample (A, B, C).
5.2 Calculate the individual weight percentage on each sieve size in EVERY sample (A, B, C).
5.3 Calculate the cumulative weight percentage passing each sieve size in EVERY sample (A, B, C).
5.4 If a blended aggregate consists of 30% of A, 50% of B and 20% of C samples, calculate the cumulative weight percentage passing each sieve size for such blended aggregate.
5.5 Calculate the cumulative weight percent retained above (i.e., add up the percentages weight retained above and including the current size) each sieve size of sample Aggregate C.
5.6 Calculate the Fineness Modulus (FM) of sample Aggregate C.
Sieve size (mm) | Aggregate weight retained (gram)
A sample | B sample | C sample
37.5 | 120 | 0 | 0 |
19.0 | 260 | 250 | 0 |
9.5 | 200 | 330 | 0 |
4.75 | 100 | 220 | 24 |
2.36 | 50 | 136 | 80 |
1.18 | 35+10 x N | 72+10 x N | 120+10 x N |
0.6 | 10 | 45 | 636 |
0.3 | 7 | 26 | 162 |
0.15 | 2 | 10 | 113 |
0.075 | 16 | 11 | 105 |
Note in the above table, N = 3
