Question 6 Ethylenediamine is used to produce chelating agents and carbamate fungicides. Monoethanolamine (MEA), reacts with ammonia and hydrogen to produce ethylenediamine. The reaction occurs in the gas phase over a catalyst at temperatures 250 bar (246.7 atm). The products are: ethylenediamine (EDA) - 74%; diethyltriamine (BETA) - 8%; piperazine (PIP) - 4%; aminoethylpiperazine (AEP) -10%; hydroxyethylpiperazine (HEP) - 4%. To allow time for maintenance during the year, the plant will operate only for 8000 h during the year. The production rate is 10,000 tonnelyr. Data: Fixed Capital Cost 10.3x106. Life of the plant 10 years. Interest Rate 10 % /yr Land Cost 1,5% depreciable capital cost Land Development Cost 2.1% depreciable capital Cost Total Raw Material Cost 0.90/kg of product Table Q6a.
