Question 7 Rubrics 1 US liquid gallon = 3.79 liters Density of water = 1000 kg/m3 Specific heat capacity of water = 4200 J/(kg. K) Question A home has a solar water heater with water capacity of 19.9 US liquid gallons. Water is initially at 26 C. The solar water heater heats the water between 10 am and 3 pm. The average incident normal solar radiation on the solar collector during these hours is 450 W/m. The collector has an area of 10 m and its efficiency is 70%. i. Calculate the power absorbed by the collector. (2 marks) ii. Calculate the total quantity of heat transferred to the water by 3 pm. (2 marks) iii. By considering the energy required to heat a liquid, determine the temperature of the water by 3 pm. (5 marks) iv. Hence determine the required flow rate of the water through the system. (1 mark)
