OSCM Assignment-II This assignment is about the efficiency measurement of a sample of conventional banks operating in the MENA region. There are three input and two output variables (the classification of these variables is available in the second tab of the attached Excel file: Inputs + Outputs). Please measure the efficiency of the sample banks two times, once applying input orientation and a second time for output orientation. Then, report the results of your analysis in one or a maximum of two pages (Word file). In addition to the report, please add tables with the results to the same Word file (e.g., the tables should contain the following information: DMUs, Score, Benchmark (Lambda), Times as a benchmark for another DMU, Projections; please do not include proportionate or slack movements). Exercise Objective: Use MaxDEA 8 program to identify the efficient and inefficient banks (DMU), by applying Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methods on sample list consisting of 86 banks or DMU. In principle, efficient DMUs are the ones which have the objective function value of 1 after solving the linear programming problem. However, for the purpose of this exercise, we are going to focus on the inefficient DMUs, that somehow did not find themselves on the efficiency frontier. The inefficient DMUs are the ones which are going to report an objective function value of less than one when solving the linear programming problem. So, how can these inefficient DMUs become efficient? Graphically speaking, the only way they can be called as efficient DMUs is when they move towards the efficiency frontier. Basically, Data Envelopment Application (DEA) can be classified into input and output oriented. Input-oriented model minimize the inputs for a desired level of output to be achieved and output-oriented model maximize the outputs while input kept at constant level. Both input and output-oriented model seeks to maximize the outputs, minimize the inputs, and thus maximize the efficiency. In general, input oriented model closely focuses on operational and managerial issues whereas output-oriented model is more associated with planning and strategy (Cullinane, K et al, 2005). For the purpose of this exercise, DEA will be applied twice, first based on input-orientation followed by output-orientation analysis. The results analysis will exclude the efficient DMU, which scored full 1(100%) in the efficiency scale, as it does not reveal any additional interesting information. Additionally, efficiency analysis will be limited to only Top Five \& Bottom Five MDU, according to the efficiency score. EA - Input Orientation: Top 5 \& Bottom 5 DMUs (Input Variable/Output Fixed) DEA - Output Orientation: Top 5 \& Bottom 5 DMUs (Input Fixed/Output Variable)
