In SanFrancisco, the minimum wage is$15 per hour. Restaurants that have more than 20 employees must also provide them with healthinsurance, paid sickleave, and paid parental leave. Inresponse, some restaurants hire fewer workers and ask customers to pick up their meals from a counter and bus their own dirty dishes. As a news article putit: "Restaurantshaven't developed a way to serve meals with less labor.They've gotten customers to do the labor they had been paying employees todo."
