QUESTION ONE [25] Advanced Computer Technologies (Pty) Limited uses a FIFO Costing System to value its production. At the beginning of April 2020, the work in progress account in the circuitry department consists of 4000 units, which are 30% complete. The units are valued as follows: Materials Direct Labour and Overheads R20 000 R35 000 During the current period, 12 000 units were transferred into the department, and at the end of the month, the work-in-progress consists of 3 000 units, which are 80% complete. The company transferred 9 000 units to the next process. Current period costs are as follows: Materials R60 000 Direct Labour R75 240 Overheads are recovered at a rate of R2.50 for every R1 of direct labour. Materials are added at the beginning of the process, while conversion costs are incurred evenly throughout the process. Inspection of the units takes place when production is 75% complete, at which stage it can be determined whether or not there has been any spoilage. The company expects a loss of 10% of input to occur as part of the production process. Required: 1.1. Prepare a production report showing the equivalent units of production. (11) 1.2. Analyse the allocation of costs to closing work-in-progress, output transferred to the next department, and normal and abnormal spoilage. (14)
