I wanted to delve into Creswell & Plano Clark's (2018) detailed description of Mixed Methods Case Study Design because I may be interested in this research approach in the future. This type of design involves qualitative and quantitative data which are embedded into a case design structure (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2018). The specific data are collected to provide evidence for a case (or cases). The unit of analysis for sampling is the case, and of utmost importance to mixed methods case study design is the reliance upon collecting multiple sources of information. Data collection is centered around boundaries segmented by time, location, and activities (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2018). Specific criteria are decided upon to guide rigorous data collection through a convergent core design, and analysis rests with describing and interpreting cases. If multiple cases are utilized, the researcher must complete a cross-case comparison (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2018). In my opinion, this type of research is rigorous and more importantly, seems like it may offer a more complete picture of my research questions than if I used just quantitative or qualitative alone. Mixed methods research can offer valuable outcomes to many audiences, since it employs both quantitative and qualitative analysis. My concern may be in the area of feasibility if I were to complete a mixed methods case study design for my own research. This type of research seems to be incredibly time-consuming and I think the researcher needs to be an expert in both qualitative and quantitative research to be successful, and I am definitely not an expert!
