Ir. Nook is a real estate tycoon and shop owner on a small island in the caribbean called Windfall Island. Mr. Nook has a monopoly on real estate and all goods on the island, with the limited xceptions of clothing, turnips, and rare works of art. In the course of his business operations, Mr. Nook employs his two sons, Timmy and Tommy, and an assistant, Isabel. Timmy and Tommy are esponsible for running the daily operations of Mr. Nook's shop, Nook's Cranny. Isabel is Mr. Nook's right hand woman, as she assists him with all matters related to the construction, demolition, and nancial management of the properties Mr. Nook owns, as well as managing all other key administrative tasks that ensure the smooth operation of Mr. Nook's ventures. Although this may seem like a small, tight-knit business venture based on trust between family and friends, not all is sunny on Windfall Island. Timmy, Tommy, and Isabel have been having significant ssues with Mr. Nook. When Mr. Nook first came to Windfall Island, there were only a few inhabitants, but recently, the island's population has grown, and so too has the demand for goods. Mr. Nook has been determined to keep up with the demand, but he has been reluctant to hire new employees as a cost saving measure. As such, Timmy and Tommy have been working 14 hour days at Nook's Cranny, running the shop from 8 AM-10 PM seven days a week. One day, Timmy decided to approach Mr. Nook to request overtime pay as well as vacation days. Mr. Nook responded with "Overtime pay, hm? I don't think that should be necessary given that you can take whatever you want from the shop for free. And vacation? Come now, living on this island is a vacation, see!" Both Timmy and Tommy were upset with Mr. Nook's dismissal of their requests, but decided to continue working at the shop, nevertheless. A few weeks later, Tommy slipped on some slippery rocks by the ocean while gathering seashells to decorate the shop with, at Mr. Nook's request. He fell and sustained a concussion and a broken leg. Tommy came to Mr. Nook and requested that he pay for the medical costs to treat his concussion, and that he install a wheelchair ramp for him to easily access the shop while he was injured. Mr. Nook responded with a simple "That's no concussion, just a bump on the head, see! And you won't be needing a ramp - you'll be back on your feet in no time, oho!" Worried for the well-being of Timmy and Tommy after these incidents, Isabel decided to approach Mr. Nook and raise her concerns. Mr. Nook responded by saying that his sons were just being disobedient and needed to be taught some discipline, remarking "If only I had two daughters, I wouldn't have this problem - girls are so much more obedient and good at doing what they're told - that's why I hired you as my assistant, Isabel, hm!" Fed up with Mr. Nook's mistreatment, Timmy, Tommy, and Isabel decided something had to be done, though they had differing ideas of what they wanted to do to take back their power from Mr. Nook. Timmy and Tommy felt they needed to stand by their father, but knew they couldn't deal with him directly anymore. As such, they decided to unionize and filed for a certification under the Windfall Island Labour Relations Act. Their collective agreement was rejected outright by Mr. Nook, however. Isabel, on the other hand, decided to abandon Mr. Nook entirely after the comments he made to her, and planned to go work for one of the other few competitors on the island. Isabel submitted a letter of resignation and was hired at Able Sisters, the clothing shop across the river, the very next day. Following her departure, she also told residents on the island that Mr. Nook was selling flea- ridden clothing in order to entice them to shop at Able Sisters exclusively. Clothing sales at Nook's Cranny plummeted as a result. Despite everything, Mr. Nook heaved a heavy sigh and said "Well...we don't do things because they are easy, hm? We do them because they are profitable!"
