Muteke Supermarket uses customised software called Muteke Master Solution (MMS) for managing its entire inventory across its different branches. This software has been used for the last three years. In these three years. the supermarket has been experiencing some drawbacks of using MMS. Required: (a) Define the term 'customised software' as used by Muteke Supermarkets. (2 marks) (b) Explain any three reasons why Muteke Supermarkets chose to use MMS. (6 marks) (c) (i) Describe three drawbacks Muteke Supermarkets is experiencing as a result of using the MMS. (6 marks) (ii) Discuss any three approaches the supermarket should have used to guard against the drawbacks identified in (c) (i) above. Owing to the above. many organisations have invested heavily in securing their computer networks in order to protect their businesses from external interferences and destruction of equipment. Required: As an ICT trainer. (a) Identify three areas where computer networks are applied in a business environment and describe the role played by the network for each area identified. (6 marks) (b) Describe three ICT security concerns in today's computer networks that may affect a company's performance. (6 marks) (c) Discuss two positive and two negative social impacts of information communication technology. (8 marks) (Total 20 marks) Question 2 Mwangusya Construction Company (MCC) acquired computers to establish a computerised system to run its operations. After conducting an evaluation survey, findings indicated that a large percentage of the employees did not know the components of the computer and how the computer functions. Management decided that a training should be conducted for all employees. By the end of the training, the employees would be expected to demonstrate the ability to identify computer components like the central processing unit and how to use computer devices like the mouse. the keyboard and other devices to allow them use computers appropriately. Additionally. management warned the employees against the health hazards that may arise as a result of using computers in un-healthy ways and further promised support in prevention of those hazards. You have been contracted as an information systems expert to facilitate an ICT workshop for employees of MCC. Required: (a) Explain to the employees of Mwangusya Construction Company the three components of the central processing unit. (6 marks) (b) Describe to the employees of Mwangusya Construction Company any three functions of a computer mouse. (8 marks) (Total 20 marks) Question 3 Munene Examinations Board (MEB) is an authorised body to administer pre-mock examinations for Uganda Certificate Examinations (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate Examinations (UACE) in eastern Uganda. The data entry clerks in charge of the examinations results are expected to transfer the results from paper documents into the examinations management system of MEB. The data entrants often enter the results into the system with the use computer keyboards. To ensure business continuity. many examination bodies use different security measures. techniques and strategies to keep their data secure. MEB particularly emphasises data back-up. The data entry clerks are expected to use storage devices for backing up different files. The backups on different storage devices are expected to be stored in remote locations. Storage devices are very essential to any computing environment in providing one of the core functions of a modern computer and they are available in different form factors. Required: (a) Explain the following terms as used in the scenario above.
