Questions ( Show set - up and units for all calculations ) On graph paper ( next page ) , make a graph of mass

Questions (Show set-up and units for all calculations)
On graph paper (next page), make a graph of mass of beaker plus water (y-axis) versus volume delivered (x-axis) following the rules for good graphing given in Appendix A. DO NOT INCLUDE THE EMPTY BEAKER MASS as a DATA POINT, USE ONLY THE 5 DATA POINTS FROM THE TABLE. PIan the range of your axes so that you can extrapolate back to find the y-intercept. Label your axes (with units) and title your graph. Draw the best straight line through your points and extrapolate to the y intercept.
a. From the graph read and record the value of y at the y-intercept of your line. Report to the correct number of significant figures based on the scale divisions of your y-axis. Also give your estimated tuncertainty. (Do not forget the units).
Value of y at the y-intercept 30.25+-0.074579mL
b. Using two (x,y) data points taken from the line (select points as far away from each other as possible) that are not any of your experimental data points, determine the slope of the line. (Remember, the slope of the line will have units of Y units/X units). Clearly mark and label the two points chosen on your graph (these need to be distinguished from the data points). Record the (x,y) coordinates of the chosen points to the correct significant figures, based on the scale divisions of your graph. Also, write the corresponding units.
Point 1
Point 2
Show your calculation with units included in the set-up for the slope below. Report your final result to the correct number of significant figures.
Slope of line (with units)=1.003+-0.004571%mL
The slope of the line and the y-intercept both have a physical meaning in this simple exercise.
a. What physical property of water does the slope of the line represent? (Hint: Look at the units.)
b. Compare your slope value to the accepted value for the physical property represented by the slope. (This value can be found elsewhere in this document.)
Accepted Value:
c. Calculate your percent error. (Show work)
What is the physical meaning of the y-intercept?
a. Does your extrapolated y-intercept from the graph agree with your measured value within the limits of your estimated uncertainty of the y-intercept?
