Q)What concerns should be understood about data communications being sent over wireless networks? Discuss the pros and cons of one method of transmission, such as Wireless Application Protocol (Search the Internet for help in wireless networks).

A wireless network is a computer network which uses wireless data connections between network nodes. It is a method by which homes, telecommunication networks installations avoid the costly process of introducing cables in to a building. These are implemented and administered using radio communication and its implementation takes at the physical level layer of the OSI model.

Few examples of wireless networks include cell phone, WLANs, satellite communication and terrestrial microwave networks.

With deployment of these LANs in almost all types of environment , the risk of attacks occurring on these networks goes up. There are different reasons behind this, the main and important reason is lack of knowledge.

There are some basic fundamentals to be in mind when deploying a wireless network. The first and foremost is we need to know at what frequency is used by the equipment that is to be deployed. There are pros and cons of using wireless networking. Some of them are

Increased Efficiency:

The data communication using wireless networks leads to fast transfer of information within the business and outside networks.

Access and Availability:

This allows user to communicate at anytime and it doesn't need any extra cables or adapter to access the networks inside the business.

Flexibility:

Office-based wireless workers can work flexibly without sitting at one particular computer and can do productive work even while they work from home or any other place away from office.

Cost Savings:

It is easier and cheaper to install in the buildings or where the permission for installation of cables is restricted.

New Opportunities:

It could offer many new products and services like for example airport departure lounges and train stations.

Despite of having all these advantages there are potential disadvantages as well to be kept in mind

Security:

These are more exposed to attack by unauthorized users, So we need to pay more attention to security of these networks.

Installation Problems:

We may experience inference if other buildings use this technology or where the electromagnetic interference exist and leads to poor communication.

Coverage:

In some areas getting consistent coverage would be difficult which leads to 'black spots' and no signal is available.

Transmission Speeds:

These can be slower and less efficient than 'wired' networks. In larger networks, the 'backbone' network is wired or fiber than wireless.
