Data and Methods Kilberg's Basic Model As previous literature has highlighted, groups have begun to shift from a centralized structure to more decentralized structures (Cronin, 2009; Jordan, 2014; Kilberg, 2018;2018; Tominaga, 2012). Several groups even combine characteristics of both centralized and decentralized organizational structures - with some structures changing over time (Kilberg, 2018). This can make it difficult to precisely classify any one terrorist group with one specified organizational structure. Nevertheless, the organizational structure coding for this study was conducted by analyzing academic databases and several Terrorist Organizational Profiles (TOPs), including Mapping Militant Organizations (MMP) and Big, Allied, and Dangerous (BAAD) databases. However, due to his simplistic template and typology of terrorist group structure, Kilberg's 2012 and 2018 basic model for explaining terrorist group organizational structures will be utilized for classifying the selected groups as either centralized or decentralized.
