Reactor R-2 is a batch polymerization reactor making Nylon66(see Figure 6-X1). It is fed adipic
acid and hexamethyldiamine monomers. After reactant charging is complete and the polymer is
partly formed, the reactor is heated further and vacuum is pulled on the headspace to pull off
the water byproduct and drive the polymerization to completion. Analyze the hazards of this
batch process and write interlocks for SV-R2M, SV-R2V, and SV-R2B. SVC indicates a closed
limit switch for each valve, which are feedback signals you may use in your interlocks (all are fail
closed valves). Justify your answers.
