After reading the chapter for this week we see that the basic elements of routine activity theory are: 1. a suitable target, 2. a motivated offender, and lastly 3. an absence of guardianship. If all three of these elements are met it is a higher probability that a crime will be committed in the area in question. When discussing Eck's triplets of guardianship there are: guardians of targets, handlers of offenders, and managers of places; with these in place it makes it more difficult for offenders to commit a crime; acting as a kind of shield around the routine activity theory. "A guardian can typicallythe owner of the property, a family member or friend, the police or security, or others who provide surveillance and protection." (Lab, 2020)

Some evidence that show significant evidence of reduced crime rate is neighborhood watch. In the Kirkholt Burglary Prevention project; the use of a neighborhood watch allowed "Burglary rate fell roughly 75 percent over the life of the project, while the remainder of the area only saw a decrease of 24 percent" (Lab,2020).
