Read the Article ?New awards unveiled to recognise firms with responsible practices?.

One of the themes in BX3012 concerns the advantages and disadvantages of corporate social responsibility reporting. Is it advantageous/ informative/ unbiased/ necessary?

Use the facilities available in the Groups tab to make your contributions.

In your answer you should address the advantages and disadvantages of corporate social responsibility in respect to financial accounting reporting. Your group should apply relevant theory(ies) to your discussion in a critical manner. (Note that it is preferable to apply only one, or two theories at most, to your discussion. I find that when students try to apply more than this, the discussion begins to lose clarity.) You should read and cite relevant literature and reference this (attach if you think it appropriate). Remember to be aware of the marking rubric for your assignment. (And?. be nice to your fellow group members.)

Links: Linking Service Full text: Singapore COMPANIES in Singapore are invited to take part in the inaugural Singapore Apex CSR Awards, organised by the Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility, the national society promoting sustainable development for businesses and stakeholders. The new national CSR awards aim to showcase the highest level of CSR excellence in Singapore. CSR is a management concept whereby companies include social and environmental concerns as an integral part of their business culture. The awards will be co-presented by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), the apex business chamber that champions the interests of the Singapore business community, and The Business Times. They are supported by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. KPMG, a multinational professional services company, is the knowledge adviser for the awards. Kwek Leng Joo, president of Singapore Compact, said: "This apex award aims to recognise corporations that excel in responsible business practices. We hope that this award will set a national benchmark for CSR best practices and inspire more companies to map out their sustainability strategy." According to Mr Kwek, integrating CSR in business has been proven to propel corporations worldwide to achieve sustainable growth and a balanced "triple bottom line", an accounting framework with three parts: social, environmental and finance. BT editor Alvin Tay added: "In today's complex business environment, companies are increasingly being evaluated on their 'triple bottom line'. They must strive to adopt best sustainability practices and demonstrate a willingness to openly engage with their stakeholders and be transparent in their business activities." Touching on the significance of the awards, Ian Hong, partner, KPMG in Singapore, said that the progressive criteria and rigorous assessment methodology of the Singapore Apex CSR Awards provide companies with an opportunity to tell their value-creation story in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. To be given out annually, the awards is open to both listed and non-listed companies. To level the playing field for Singapore-incorporated companies taking part, the entries will be segmented into two categories: large companies with revenue of S$300 million and above; and small and mid-sized companies with revenue of less than S$300 million. The closing date for submission is March 27 2015. Interested parties can download the submission template and find out more at www.csrsingapore.org/c/apex-awards.
