Type 2 Scenario

You are an officer on the Worthington police force. At 18:30 hours you are dispatched to 1031 Bramble Lane to take a complaint by the homeowner.

You pull up in front of a white colonial farmhouse with a weathered barn near it. Looking diagonally across and down the lane, there is another farm. No other neighbors are close by. You proceed to knock on the front door, and it is answered by Bethany McGuiver, a recent COVID widow in her 50's. With tears running down her cheeks, she sobs out, "Bella is missing! She was gone when I brought her dinner."

You try to calm her down and prepare to take down a missing person report that will sit for 48 hours in hopes Bella will return home. Very calmly you ask for Bella's full name and age to start your report. Much to your surprise, Bethany states, "She's my four-year-old, prize angora ewe. She's Jack and my last investment. She's a member of the family!"

You ask to see the last place Bella was seen, and Bethany takes you to a neat stall in the barn. She states, "Bella spends her day in the meadow, and Joe James, my hired help, stopped by to tell me he put Bella in her stall before he left for the day. We never leave her out after dark!" Bethany then supplies Joe's address as 522 Main Street in town. Nothing looks disturbed except for the open stall gate. You tell Bethany you plan to investigate and talk to Joe.

You start with Bethany's neighbor Petunia Percy who owns Petunia's Pygmy Potbelly Pigs. Petunia is leaning over the rail of her front porch as she watches the excitement at the McGuiver home. When you stop, she bubbles, "Officer, whatever is happening? That poor woman! The lane has never been busier. Between this excitement and the high school lettermen parading their mascot down the street, a body doesn't know what to think." You ask about the mascot; it's a sheep.

You pick up Mrs. McGuiver and head to the regional high school that is a mile away. As you pull into the parking lot, you see that the bleachers are filled with students who are cheering their team the Regional Rams. As you approach, a red faced cheerleader approaches and states, "Oh, dear. I knocked, but you weren't home. We just borrowed Bella and planned to bring her home right after the game. Jeffie borrowed his dad's truck to bring her back home." The cheerleader Susie Smith appealed to Mrs McGuiver. Seeing the situation and that Bella was not harmed, Bethany said she wouldn't press charges. You cleared the scene at 19:45.
