Case Study Maria A 17 y/o patient presents to the emergency brought by police after she was found wandering in the city streets being disorganized. In the ED, she was found to be not oriented to person and place. The patient identified herself as Maria, and remained guarded and wrapped in blankets in the hospital's gurney. Her school ID showed found in her belongings showed that she is a student at a local high school. Parents were contacted and they came to the hospital. Her parents informed the ED staff that he had been missing for 6 hours. They were surprised that she did not come home from school. They were searching for her in the city. Parents informed them that she was born full-term. Gestation and delivery were normal. She showed signs of delay in gross motor, fine motor, and expressive language skills. By the time she started school, she was behind from his peers, but still managed to pass her courses. In middle school, she was active in school related activities and was part of the basketball teams. During high school, she became more reclusive and withdrawn. She would lock herself in her room and occupy her time watching movies or using social media. Her grades in high school were so poor and they had met with the guidance counselor who told them she may have "typical adolescent adjustment issues". Months later, her level of functioning deteriorated, she became reluctant to attend school, she isolated in his room more and hardly interacted with her family members. She was described by his teachers as emotionally withdrawn and distant. Recently, the most concerning issue is her preoccupation with religion. She has made numerous calls to save her soul, to resist the devil and help God's children. Her speech has been rapid and disorganized. Her parents have confronted her several times and she became angry and would tell them that she is God's servant.
