1. Legal Review of Human Resource Management

The legal environment affects the healthcare workplace in many ways. Choose three of the following four topics: 1) sexual harassment in the healthcare workplace, 2) impaired (drugs or alcohol) physician or healthcare professional, 3) workplace searches (preferably in the healthcare workplace), or 4) discrimination in the healthcare workplace according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Conduct a search using the internet for information on court cases pertaining to the three topics chosen. Choose a different case for each topic, and do not use a case discussed in the text.

For each topic chosen, report your findings. Include the name of the case, a summary (in your own words) of the case, its outcome, and state your reaction, opinion, or insight into the subject matter as it relates to legal issues in human resource management. List the topic choice and case reference first and your summary/opinion/reaction following. Each summary and reaction combined should be between 250 to 350 words. Make sure to include a working link to your source to receive full credit. The working link should follow the summary; do not list them all at the end of the paper. No APA citation is necessary.

2. Job Analysis in Health Information Management

You are the new coding supervisor at University Hospital.Currently there are two different coding positions in the HIM department: Inpatient Coding Specialist and Outpatient Coding Specialist. As the coding supervisor, you believe the coding area would have more flexibility if there were only one coding position.Your department director agrees in principle but would like you to perform a job analysis which will be used to determine the need to create one coding position: Coding Specialist. In other words, the two current coding positions will be combined into one position. All ten coders will perform inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room coding. Choose three of the seven data collection methods discussed in the lecture and text (pp. 131 - 133) to use to collect data on this proposed new position. For each method, explain why you chose the method, and describe how you would carry out the method in analyzing the coding positions. You must also explain the connection between your choices. In other words, how do your choices support each other, and why does this combination of data collection methods work?
