Read the following scenarios and describe how you would handle each of the listed situations. Use the ICCRC Code of Professional Ethics as your guide and cite which sections of the Code would apply to each scenario. Please do not copy from the Code; explain in your own word the actions you need to take and then correlate the actions with the applicable Article number from the Code:
1. You are approached by a prospective client and upon collecting information from him, you find that there is significant evidence of persecution in his homeland based on his religious beliefs. You specialize in economic class and have never handled a refugee application before. What should you do?
2. You are representing a client on a skilled worker application and you forgot to submit a key document in the application package, thereby delaying the processing of the case slightly. What should you do?
3. You are attending a social function where there are several colleagues discussing general details of different types of cases that they have worked on. You have a specific case that you are currently working on that is identical to the scenario one of them is describing. You wish to share these details with your colleagues. What do you do?
4. You are representing a client on a provincial nominee business category application and have been asked if you can assist the applicant in identifying a business that would meet the provincial criteria. You have a business in mind which would meet both the applicant's prior experience as well as the priority sectors of the province. What must you do?
5. You are in receipt of the immigrant visas for a client who has been notorious for not paying his invoices on time. You are afraid that if you release his visas to him that you will not receive your final payment. What should you do?
6. You are representing a client at a hearing and the presiding member acting on behalf of the IRB is acting in what you feel is a disrespectful way. He has accused your client of being dishonest and you want to call him on it. What should you do?

It is almost the month of April and you know that you are going to be very busy with tax work through your accounting business. You are approached by several clients who wish to retain you, but you know that you will have little time for their cases until after the tax season. Do you take their cases?
10. You have established your practice and it is thriving, allowing you to hire two assistants: John and Michelle. Both are new graduates and recent ICCRC members and have had little practical experience. You wish to go on vacation for two months during the summer but you have 20 complicated cases that you need to prepare and submit during this period of time. Can you leave this work to John and Michelle to undertake in your absence?
