Read the following statement from John Peters, an accounting department supervisor for the Citizens National Bank: Wilma is a real dingbat. Everybody loves her, but she is scatterbrained. She forgets appointments all the time. We all try to help her because we know she means well, but we sometimes wonder how she got hired. I recognize that some people have bad days, but Wilma always has trouble. When I talk about Wilma at home, my kids say she is an "airhead," and I tell them that some of the employees call her "Batty" behind her back. She is always making silly mistakes and lacks common sense. Unorganized is probably the word that best describes Wilma. Wilma can be truly endearing and completely frustrating. She has potential but is lost in her own world, so she can't be relied on. She's easily distracted by peripheral issues and has trouble working with the team. She should probably be fired because she always misses deadlines, but I'm not certain that we can find anyone better to replace her. I've tried to explain what needs to be done and how to do it and to let Wilma know that I'm available if she has any questions. I even leave her a "punch list" of what needs to be done by when, and she still messes up. Just last week, she misplaced the list. Yesterday, Wilma asked me about a customer's account that needed to be reconciled. We spent at least an hour going over the "how's" and "where's." Today, she asked me the same questions about another customer's account. I don't know if she's just dumb or just doesn't care. I don't think I can continue to be a babysitter, but what do I do? 1.
