1. I do not wear jewelry in public by fear that it may be stolen, I only take public transportation by fear of being in an accident if I drive, and on vacation at the beach, I also avoid swimming, by fear of drowning. I know, it's not always practical, but I can make it work quite often.
2. I am proactive and look for, then apply, measures to prevent or reduce the negative impact of potential losses to me. For example, I buckle up in a car, I check that my doors are locked before turning in at night, or I ensure the batteries of my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are good.
3. I put money aside to pay for the cost of potential losses, should an unexpected event happen.
4. I pay another party to step in and provide monetary compensation should I be exposed to a a loss-incurring event. I understand that I cannot speculate and expect someone else to compensate losses I may incur there. And I also understand that I may have to pay a deductible first before being compensated.
