Catalogs offer unique benefits like targeted marketing, a tactile experience, and brand building. They can be used alongside online and physical stores to create a seamless shopping experience. Catalogs are particularly useful for reaching customers who prefer traditional shopping methods or who may not be fully engaged in the digital world. They can also drive online traffic and enhance customer retention. While digital channels are dominant, integrating catalogs into a broader digital strategy can maximize their impact in today's retail environment.

A local retailer can be better prepared for future disruptions by investing and in improving their digital services to consumers. When the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, many retailers were not prepared for the disruption and did not even have order pickup options. This resulted in stores not being able to supply consumers with products during the lockdowns. The stores that didn't provide a pickup option, suffered in sales, since consumers did not want to have personal interactions with other people, due to fear. An example would be Trader Joe's. They did not have a online order/pickup option and relied on people waiting in huge lines to get their necessary products. As a consumer, if I saw a long line, I would opt in for another option that would be quicker and require less interaction. If a store like Trader Joe's provided the online order option, it would not be negatively impacted as much by a scenario like the COVID-19 pandemic.
