read this:
"North Country shows how women were mistreated in the workplace back in the day. The move made me appreciate where we are today and the courage of women back in the day. The mistreatment that women faced in the past, the tragic incidents, and the fight women put up made the changes possible. I cannot imagine being treated the way women were treated back in the day; watching the movie and seeing what women had to go through in the past was genuinely heartbreaking.
One moral breach by the company was that they did not provide restrooms in the iron minefield. Male workers were able to use the bathroom in the field, but women could not do that. A female employee suffered from a bladder infection because they were no areas and restrooms for the female employees to use the bathroom. The female employees had to wait until they got back to the building to use the toilets. Male employees would not stop for them and made them continue driving the truck, and made vulgar comments that the females should pee their pants. Since the company did not provide restrooms for the males only, this falls into being immoral. The company should make sure that there are porta-potties that the female employees can use when working in the iron field and that they always can take a break when they need to use the restroom.
One ethical breach by the company was that they were aware of the sexual harassment but did not take any action. The women working in the iron mine were constantly treated poorly and sexually harassed. Male workers and supervisors were continually making comments about the women's bodies, how they looked underneath their clothes and trying to brush it off as jokes. The male workers put inappropriate toys into the women's lunchboxes, touched them in extreme, inappropriate ways, wrote explicit wording on the walls, and humiliated them. Josey, the main character, made the supervisor aware of everything going on, but he said to deal with it. Even when Josey got a meeting with the company owner, instead of helping the women working in the iron mine, he brushed it off and offered her to quit her job. The company owner treating the male employees better than the female ones and ignoring the male ones' wrongdoings is unethical. Not only is this behavior unethical, but it is also immoral. I suggest that the company stops discriminating against their female employees and treat all employees the same. Women should be in supervisor and manager positions, and not only do the positions that male employees don't want to do."
