Reading #1 "Hormones in Food: Should You Worry\" (Storrs) Reading #2 "Orga nic (Moyer) Select a quote from the text that feels important to you. Use quotation marks and include in-text citation. \"But Ann Macrina, Ph.D., a researcher in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science at Pennsylvania State University, says that the amount of estrogen found in meat is vanishingly small compared to the level in our bodies.\" lStorrs pg. 5) "A three-ounce serving of beef from an estrogen-treated cow contains less than a billionth of a gram of estrogen, a level around 400,000 times lower than estrogen in women and nearly 100,000 times lower than that in men.\" (Storrs _. 5 "Winter and his colleagues found that, each day from conventionally-grown apples and apple-based products, Americans typically consume a dose of Thia bendazole that is 787 times less than the EPA's recommended exposure limit.\" (Moyer pg. 5) "Put another way, you'd have to eat as many apples and apple product as 78? Americans eat in a single day combined in order to be exposed to a level of this pesticide that approaches the EPA's exposure limit.\" (Moyer pg. 5) Explain why quote is important and how it connects to your experiences. This quote is important because it give us logic facts that the estrogen found in meats aren't really harmful to us when we eat and it doesn't affect our health, us humans have way more estrogen compared to meat and that shouldn't affect us at all. (Storrs pg. 5) This quote connects to me because me as a young woman I like to eat meat sometimes and us women will most likely have higher estrogen but knowing that a piece of meat won't affect me, and it won't do enough to affect my body. This quote is important because it's informing us that these "conventionally grown apples\" that us Americans consume won't ha rm us after a few bites, it will take a lot more than a couple apples to get near \"EPA's exposure limit...\" (Mayer pg. 5) This quote connects to me because whenever I'd plan on eating an apple, I would always make sure to rinse and rub my apple before eating it because they're touched by people and the pesticides but now learning about this, I now know that the pesticide being used on apples won't do any harm to me, either way I'm still going to rinse it off. Explain how all ofthe texts are connected. All these texts are connected because they all show us readers facts about the different type of foods being presented in these articles, healthy or not and it gives us real evidence about these foods. All the texts inform us how the food we eat doesn't make much affect to our health, l'J.QE'El?E.f9I. that food to affect us we have to eat a really big amount of it. Reading #3 \"Fast Food Consumption Among Adults in the U.S., 2013-2016\" (Frya r) "Overall, 31.7% of lower-income (less than or equal to 130% ofthe federal poverty level of FPL), 35.4% of middle income (greater than 130% to less than or equal to 350% of FPL), and 42.0% of higher-income (greater than 350% of FPL) adults consumed on a given day." (Fryar pg. 3) "Among adults who consumed fast food, the most commonly reported eating occasions were lunch (43.7%) and dinner (42.0%), followed by breakfast (22.7%) and snacks (22.5%)" (Fryar pg. 3) This quote is important because the article showed us real percentage on the consumption of fast food in the U.S by adults based on their income etc.... and all the percentages were closely similar, and it wasn't, many differences showing us that the consumption of fast food really isn't that much ofa harm. (Fryar pg. 3) This quote connects to me because I am a person that doesn't come from a high income and I also enjoy eating fast food at times, I don't eat it excessively but eating some amount of fast food won't really harm unless that's all you eat.
