Discussion Prompt: The Boss: Friend or Foe?

The relationship between an employee and a manager can be fraught with frustration. Or it can be one of the most fruitful and rewarding relationships of your career. Honest, respectful, and healthy employee-manager relationships are also key to the effectiveness of the broader organization. In light of your readings this week, analyze a current or past employee-manager relationship, and answer the following questions:

• What types of power and influence tactics are used most often, and what impact do they have on the behaviors of the individuals?
• How effective is the communication between the two individuals? If it's ineffective, what changes can be made for a healthier relationship and for the greater good of the organization?
• How might an application of a biblical worldview and biblical principles positively affect the relationship whether you are the employee or the manager?
