Real world disasters create a lot of global and regional supply chain issues. An ice storm in Texas may shut down a certain area for two days. Lets say that area is where they produce pick-up trucks. If the workers are out for 2 days then production immediately falls two days behind. Now if that same storm shuts down the interstate for 2 days now the trucks delivery are also two days behind. Which compounds that delay further and further down the supply chain. It can get to the point where someone waiting for a truck in Virginia may get it over a week late because of an ice storm in Texas. Another example would be hurricanes in Mississippi. If the coast takes a direct hit then all the support services fall then it can affect not only the local community but also the regional one. If gas that is headed for Oklahoma get diverted to help rescue efforts in MS then the price for a gallon may increase in OK. This is because the supply now falls short of projected demand. We currently have laws in place to ensure this is not abused, but it still happens
