Guns don't kill people. people do. Don't try telling that to the District of Columbia Council, though. The council is one step away from passing legislation that would hold manufacturers and dealers of handguns financially liable for shooting injuries or deaths...But their solution to these problems is as appalling as the crimes themselves. In essence, the council is saying that people who make the conscious decision to take another life aren't wholly responsible for that decision. The manufacturer, because they happen to produce the product they do, is also responsible. That's like saying the makers of kitchen knives should be responsible for stabbing murders committed with cutlery. Or, for that matter, carmakers should be liable when people get tanked, try to drive home and plow over aunt Fifi and uncle Hughey as they take their nightly stroll. Quite simply, gunmakers aren't responsible for how people choose to misuse their purchases, and to say they are is ludicrous.
