Directions For this report, you will choose three relevant psychological theorists from the list below:

• Noam Chomsky
• Howard Gardner
• John Dewey
• Friedrich Froebel
• Lev Vygotsky
• Sigmund Freud
• Jean Piaget
• Erik Erikson
• Maria Montessori

In your report, you will compare the ideas of your chosen theorists and examine how they relate to various age groups and important milestones. The age groups you will review are as follows:

• 0-12 months
• 12-18 months
• 18-24 months
• 24-36 months
• 36-48 months

The basis of your report will be a table which demonstrates the different theories as applied to the cognitive development of these age groups. Try to use examples of the theories in action where possible. Use the table template at the end of this document to create the table for your report.

After completing your table, you should construct a written narrative related to the information presented in the table. Your narrative should begin with a short introduction paragraph that summarizes what information will be given in the narrative.

In the body of your narrative, please address the following questions/prompts:

• Describe the important similarities and differences you noticed amongst your chosen theorists.
• Detail why it is important for early childhood educators to consider and understand the ideas of these different theorists.
• Analyze how an early childhood educator could best utilize the ideas of your chosen theorists to establish Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) in his or her classroom.
• Identify the key psychological milestones that appear to be common between two or more of the theorists you chose.
• Explain the important implications of the chosen theories for understanding brain function and psychological development.

Your narrative should end with a conclusion paragraph that summarizes your findings and relates key concepts, trends, and/or themes displayed in your table. Be sure to cite any information from outside sources that you use in the table or written narrative. There is template for the narrative provided at the end of this document.
