Before starting this assignment, review the comments and corrections on your last writing assignment. At the top of your prewriting, write down two areas you wish to improve on or two goals you wish to accomplish in this assignment.
Step 1: Prewriting
A descriptive paragraph describes a person, a thing, or a place.
Choose a place you know very well, it can be in your city, or a place you have visited. Find an image of it(include this picture in your submission)and describe it vividly. Do not use numbers such as X feet tall or X amount of tourists. The description should be what is seen in the picture and be inyour own words, with no Google search for specific information.
Once you have decided what you want to describe and have found a picture of it, spend about 10 minutes filling out the prewriting steps in the template provided for you.
Step 2: Planning
Your outline will need to be organized in spatial order. Consider the material you gathered in your prewriting and form an outline for your paragraph. Organize your ideas following the description template below or better yet, the A-Z Description Template.Download A-Z Description Template.

Conclusion
Check your outline for unity, development, and coherence by asking yourself:
- Is your topic sentence clear?
- Do your supporting details accurately describe the picture?
- Do you have enough details? Be precise with location, colors, sizes, etc.
- Are your details organized in a logical spatial order?
Step 3: Drafting
- Using that outline, write the first draft
- "Flesh out" the ideas from your outline
- Include transitional words and phrases to create a flow between sentences. See this week's reading for a list of transitions for a descriptive paragraph
- Compose a title for your work
Step 4: Polishing
Ask yourself:
- Are my sentences too long or too short?
- Do I have enough sentence variety?
- Are my words appropriate for academic purposes?
- Do I have any major grammatical errors (e.g., fragments, comma splices, or run-on sentences)?
- Do I have any spelling or mechanical errors?
- Are my verb tenses or persons (first, second, third) consistent?
