Introduce your Data Set and Cite the Source.

-data set from Houghton Mifflin regarding systolic blood pressure and weight.

-Which would be the independent variable, and which would be the dependent variable?

  • The independent variable would be the X which is the systolic blood pressure.
  • The dependent variable would be the Y which is the weight.

-Without drawing a scatter plot, would you expect a positive, negative or no correlation? Explain.

  • Without drawing a scatterplot, I would expect to see a positive correlation. With positive correlations, as X increases, Y also increases. This seems to be happening with this data.

-Would you categorize your data to have a strong or weak correlation? Why?

  • I would also expect to have a strong correlation because the values all seem pretty near each other. I created a scatter plot, and most points do stay pretty near if not on the linear trendline.

-What would the r2value tell you about the data that you selected?

  • r = 0.97;This confirms I have a solid correlation because the r is exceptionally close to the value of 1.

-What is the equation of the regression line?

  • Equation of the regression line is: y = 1.2332x + 9.9031

-Use the regression line to make a prediction about the data you collected.

  • Using the equation, I can predict that if a person has an average systolic blood pressure of 120, they probably weigh around 148 pounds.

Provide more information and clarification.

  1. Review the data. List the parts of the analysis that you agree with and why. Ask one clarifying question.
  2. Compare the analysis of two pieces of data until you find two that have a similar report. What are the subjects of those reports and why do you think they would have the same analysis?
