I'm curious, what is your opinion about below on these messages?

1.) Routing. I am learning a lot about routing at my internship right now. For anything to reach any place, you basically must have routes set up beforehand for places to go. If you have no route, your packets will never actually reach the destination. A lot of the time we have servers at work, where if their routes are wrong (like a type on the route's IP) then we can't ping out from that server.

2.) Layer 2 Switches. I just learned about the differences today at work. Layer 2 is just data link, so a layer 2 switch basically only works for linking a bunch of things together to go back and forth if needed. At my work, our layer 2 Switches have no ACL's (Access Control Lists) or anything to help mitigate illegal traffic. Layer 3 switches usually have firewall rules and ACLs instead.

3.) VPNs. This is something we have at work, and I only understand it for a certain case. It's basically a private network, within our private network, that you must connect to. We have special servers and things that need to be very secure behind a VPN. You'd have to get through 2 connections basically to get to it. At least as far as I understand. You also wouldn't be able to sniff through our VPN traffic while being on our private network already, if you for some reason wanted to try.

4.) Split Tunneling. Having this option enabled helps protect the corporate network because all traffic also goes through firewalls and proxy servers, which prevent a network from being infected or compromised.

5.) CMAK. This is just a tool kit that helps you create and customize the profiles for the Connection Manager to distribute them to users. The CM is a client network connection tool that helps administrators simplify the management of their remote connections.

Thank you,

Abby
