Reliance Thermal Power Ltd (RTP) acquires a Ron Mining Ltd (RCM). RCM's coal mines are very close to the RTP's power plants and hence RTP would make a savings in fuel transportation costs. MAK Power Trading Ltd (MPT) is a customer of RTP which has a 5 year power purchase agreement with RTP. a. Due to acquisition of RCM, the RTP saves $ 20 per ton of coal in transportation costs. ABC uses 10000 ton of coal every year. Assume that due to inflation and expansion, this benefit will grow at 5% each year till perpetuity. What is the NPV of the benefits for RTP assuming discount rate of 10%? (The first benefit will occur at the end of the first year) b. RCM is known for its dubious environmental record. MPT is a climate conscious company and hence was appalled to hear the news that its power supplier has acquired such an irresponsible company. Hence it terminates its power purchase agreement with RTP effective from next year. RTP will thus lose out on revenue from MPT for next 4 years due to the acquisition. Assuming that MPT would have bought 50,000 units of electricity at price of $ 3 per unit, calculate the net present value of revenues lost by for RTP due to the acquisition. c. Calculate the net synergy for RTP due to the acquisition
