Exercise Instructions

1. After reviewing the CBC Fifth Estate video "Shafia Family Murders" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjhLGiWILgc it is expected that you keep in mind some of the themes we have been discussing so far in this course. That tension between Canada's identity, immigration needs and the desire to hold onto cultural and religious ideologies that may could be in conflict to a deep history of establishment.

2. What does the Charter protect when in comes to Religious beliefs in this country?Given its established protectionist view (allegedly), do honour killings have a place in protected society; specifically in Canada.

a. In your analysis discuss how and when religion and cultural practices should be placed at the Canadian door. Question is. Should they?If not, then how do we establish the rules of the game. Which practices should be allowed and others not? Perhaps research some global political issues that reflect this discussion.

b. If they do get parked at the door, how does that work when we ask people to express their religious, cultural and social self's without discrimination.

3. Use the Shafia Family murders to help you frame your discussion overall. But feel free to leverage other examples through academia and open source that can help you make your point.
