REMEDIES IN CONTRACT AND TORT LAW: 2500 words Shelby owns a tailoring business, specialising in custom made two and three-piece suits with a vintage flair. Over the years, Shelby's business has gained an excellent reputation amongst local suppliers for the garments' superior design and construction. Shelby has a longstanding professional relationship with Arthur, the owner of Peaky Blinders' Menswear, which is a major stockist of Shelby's suits. To fulfil increasing customer demand, Arthur places an order with Shelby for the purchase of 500 blue and red tartan suits with matching waistcoats for 15,000. As part of the agreement, Arthur pays 5,000 in advance as a deposit, with the remaining sum payable upon delivery. Shelby starts fulfilling the order straight away, purchasing materials and allocating the workload to his staff. A local gang of youths decide to congregate outside Shelby's factory on their bikes smoking cigarettes. An ember from one of the cigarettes flies in through the factory window and ignites a nearby roll of fabric. The fire quickly spreads through the factory and destroys the building, including all of Shelby's stock. By the time of the blaze, Shelby had produced just under half of Arthur's order, with 5,000 spent on staffing and materials. Arthur demands his 5,000 deposit back, but Shelby refuses. Arthur is devastated at this news, as he has already sold the 500 suits in advance to customers and is unable to fulfil the 250 orders. Alfie is one of these customers who is now unable to receive his order for his upcoming wedding. Feeling angry, Alfie demands a refund and leaves a very negative review online for the business. He then purchases a replacement designer suit for double the cost of the original. With his new designer suit intact, Alfie is seeking to get married at a brand-new wedding venue The Garrison, which has opened in an upmarket and trendy part of London, which is becoming known for its wealthy and famous residents. The local residents have been unhappy with this new venue since opening, stating that the clientele it is attracting do not fit in with the area, and lower the tone of the neighbourhood. There is also a concern about the overwhelming smell of cigar smoke and alcohol that is continuously emanating from the venue. One resident Ada decides to take matters into her own hands and turns up to the venue during Alfie's wedding armed with a foghorn which she blows at anyone exiting and entering the building. The owners of The Garrison demand that Ada leave. One wedding guest, Polly, has decided to have one too many alcoholic drinks at the evening reception, and decides to explore the building. She sees some abandoned stairs at the back of the venue which she climbs up, leading to an unlocked door to the roof of the building. The roof is incredibly slippery and wet, and Polly falls over the side of the building, breaking her back and paralysing her.
