My experiences have started before I started student teaching, since I am doing my student teaching in my own classroom. During these first five weeks, my most rewarding experiences have been when I was teaching my students, and I quickly realized that they got the lesson. They all constructed different buildings out of popsicle sticks, and they all said different names of buildings found in our neighborhood. I have a child that is no longer with us, she was placed in a smaller setting, she was on the spectrum. Not only did she build a building with popsicle sticks, but she also said it was football house, she meant a stadium. This same child also builds a structure out of Legos. This is a child that has a very short attention span. I currently have a child that has a very difficult behavior. One day he decides that he does not want to nap, so he runs around not letting his peer's sleep. I went over to him, coaxed him out from under the table and walked him over to his cot. I told him to lay down, he laid down screaming and crying. I sat down next to him and started rubbing his back. He continued to cry loudly and kick his feet. Then I remembered how I put my son to sleep when he was little, by rubbing his head, stroking his hair, so I started to do that and he stopped kicking and started to relax, until he finally fell asleep. I quickly realized that not every child likes to have their backs rubbed to go to sleep, in this case this child likes to have his head rubbed.
