REPLT TO THIS DISCUSSION POST WITH ONE SOURCE:

THIS WAS THE QUESTION: Assume you were hired to design a managed care organization targeted to baby boomers in Bronx, New York, a city with a large diverse, multicultural community. How would you make this service offering unique to respond to the major trends of the target market?

A managed care organization (MCO) is a health plan focused on limiting costs while maintaining the quality of care.Baby boomers are the generation of individuals born between 1946 and 1964. The baby boomer generation has a longer life expectancy but is more likely to have higher rates of hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes. With the aging population, the cost of healthcare increases, as does the need for healthcare professionals. Rising healthcare expenditures concern the baby boomer generation since they are depleting their retirement funds. The Bronx, although very diverse, has a high Hispanic population.Access to care in NYC is considerably disproportionate, and the impact of COVID-19 left many people jobless, dead, or severely ill due to COVID-19 complications.

My design for an MCO targeted to baby boomers in the Bronx would include on-hand translators and access to an on-call nurse. I've dealt with numerous patients that only speak Spanish, and it can be challenging and frustrating for the physician and the patient when you want to provide adequate care to the patient, but you don't understand each other. With COVID-19, many boomers still fear becoming severely ill, and an on-call nurse would be able to provide adequate care to the patient and pre-determine if the patient requires additional medical assistance, preventing unnecessary trips to the doctor. An on-call nurse would also increase access to quality care. I would also have a team perform walk-throughs of the boomer patient's living space to ensure it's safe from potential accidents. Some boomers are very independent and don't require much assistance, but accidents happen.
