Understanding trends in our individual and collective workflow can have a significant impact on our employee relationships and productivity. I have a better understanding of my own work style and how it can affect how I interact with colleagues thanks to Compass Points work characteristics personality assessment. I now know my pros and cons better and how I can work with people better thanks to this exercise.
The strengths in my work are best described by the following four adjectives: meticulous, attention to detail, responsible, and self-motivated. These qualities show that I value self-motivation, ownership of my work, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to getting tasks done. These qualities help me achieve quality work that is completed on time and with meticulous attention to detail.
But like any creative process, there are limits to my ambitions. The limitations of my career path can be summed up in four words: risk-averse, adventurous, perfectionist, and conservative. These qualities may help me in some situations, but they can also present challenges when collaborating with people who have different ways of working. For example, my perfectionism and rigidity can lead me to be too specific in plans or procedures, which will make it difficult for me to adjust to unexpected changes. My tendency to work alone can also make it difficult for me to delegate tasks or perform better on a team. Also, I can miss opportunities or take longer to make decisions than more conservative people due to my risk averse personality.
Because of their improvisation and risk-taking nature, I find the spontaneous approach the hardest to work with out of the four. They jump from one project to the next without any planning or research, and their desire to make quick decisions may clash with my detailed, detail-oriented approach although this approach can happily and energy is embedded in the project and can also lead to conflict within the group though.
Despite the difficulty of keeping up with styles, I appreciate and know the value of each style. The rational approach fosters logical planning and reasoning, the intuitive approach fosters spontaneity and flexibility, and the humanistic approach fosters empathy and teamwork. Through the benefits of discovering and applying these strategies, I can assemble a diverse and productive team.
Finally, in this role, it became clear to me what people needed to know about me in order for us to collaborate effectively. By demonstrating my tendency to take a structured approach, the need to manage unclear expectations, and a cautious attitude, I can help others understand my career path and be flexible in their interactions with me as appropriate.
