I am part of a unique division within the City that collaborates closely with a recently established department, with a primary focus on promoting diversity and inclusion within our community. Our team comprises individuals who are well versed in their respective cultures and share a genuine connection with their communities. We actively engage with all members of the community, acting as a liaison between the City and various groups and populations.

Our existing City leaders are committed to bringing together all communities. They firmly believe that every person residing in our city holds inherent value, irrespective of their demographic background. In order to gain a better understanding of the overall sentiments and unmet needs of underserved communities, we conducted surveys. Our objective was to strengthen community support and encourage civic engagement.

The survey results revealed that a majority of individuals expressed dissatisfaction with their current level of involvement with the City, but they were eager to become more engaged. In response, we have initiated several projects to address these concerns. These initiatives include interactive workshops, polling, community-driven planning, participatory budgeting, Citizen Advisory Committees, open planning forums and more. In addition, we host multi-cultural events and festivities on significant cultural holidays.

While we still have more work ahead of us to achieve our desired outcomes, we have made significant progress in bridging these gaps and fostering a sense of unity within our diverse communities.
