reply to this discussion form To what extent should the schools be responsible for teaching sex education? In my personal opinion, I do not think schools teaching sex education would be a bad thing. Some students may be uncomfortable discussing this with a parent as opossed to someone whom teaches them daily about general education. Teachers will be able to inform their students on the safety of sex as well as the possible concequences of unprotected sex. Although almost every state has precaution on how sex education is taugh in schools, it is solely decided on the school district. To what extent should sex education be left to parents? This is another opinion of mine, I would hope that the child is comfortable enough to discuss this topic with their parent. Their are many benefits to discussing the topic of sex with their children. Conversations about sex with their children can build on information over time and at a pace that works for their child. When parent's express clear values about sex, children are more than likely to adhere to those values. Both parent's and educators have essential roles in teaching about sex education. Who should handle education about STDs? Children need to know about STDs, it is also best that they get the facts from someone whom is reliable and knows the risks and types of STDs and how they affect you, therfore teaching children how to protect themselves. If the child doesn't feel comfortable discussing about STDs with their parent, they can talk with their doctor, the school nurse, their teacher or even another family member
