Reply to this, I agree with every statement of your assessment on Dr. Wood. I was also assigned this case study and I found it to be very intriguing and relevant in my life. Over my working career, I have worked with a multitude of leaders and some of them unfortunately have Dr. Wood's style of "leadership." Dr. Wood would be better fit as a lead researcher but does not possess the skills to lead a federal project. If you look at the three-skills approach, he would be strong with technical skills but sub par with human and conceptual skills. There is no doubt that his expertise in the field is advantageous, but being a leader is much more involved than that. He needs to find better ways to motivate his researchers. Perhaps if he were to get to know them on a more personal level, he could empathize and relate to their needs. Having a boss who can empathize and relate to creates a solid bond and trust. That ultimately leads to someone who is willing to work harder to achieve the goals
