reply to this post from the point of view as a student: As an economic consultant and economist for the Macro Islands it is my advice that the United States of America should not use tariffs and quotas to restrict foreign buissness competition. The use of tarriffs and quotas on foreign made goods drives cost up for american citizens thus reducing the options for americans to purchase in the product market. This can irritate consumers and deter them from making purchases in the market. Further use tarriffs and quotas can damage the US potential ability to maximize profit/production. Restricitions on purchasing foreign goods places a burden on the US government and manufactures to deal with comparative advantage and scarcity. Finally, tarriffs and quotas can damage political relationships between the US and another country. Forcing the other country to take their business elsewhere to generate profit
