From my past experience being a middle manager, I did work long hours and the pace was very hectic. I still have a fast pace and hectic job as first-line manager; however, I do not have to worry as much about someone calling me at two in the morning asking questions. I still have some mandatory on-call days. My days of long hours still exist at times but not like it was as middle manager. I would not be interested in a return to the long hours and hectic pace. My current position does help me to see the bigger picture and has helped me to develop conceptual skills. I have an opportunity each day to use analytic skills and interpersonal skills when communicating with operating employees. Technical skills are invaluable when field training new employees and supervisors (Owusu-Nyamekye, 2024, p. 4).
