Typically, the athletic facilities are spread out over the campus of the school. Many also are locked up and need keys/ padlocks to enter into them. The hire needs to be able to navigate the campus and be able to stay organized to be able to get into the facilities. Next, oftentimes athletics need to be practiced/ played at different times of the day. For example you might have practice early before school, after school, or late in the evenings depending on weather, schedule, conflicts, etc. The schedule may change throughout the day, week, or semester. You need to have a hire that is able to be flexible and change plans last minute. By having the inconsistent schedule, this may cause trouble in scheduling the maintenance of the facilities. When interviewing a potential employee about coming on staff, I would want to ask questions about their organization, time management, flexibility, best ways to communicate, and their knowledge of how to maintain different facilities. When interviewing a potential employee for the athletic and activities department, there are a list of questions that I want to prepare. I want to make sure that this person is the best fit for our school, culture, and programs. Some of the questions I would ask would be about their organization, coaching philosophy, communication style, their goals for the programs, their values in a program.
