While no agency in the U.S. is dedicated to tracking college shootings, over the past year several high-profile college mass shootings have occurred including at the University of Virginia where three football players were shot and killed and at Michigan State University where a gunman killed three, injured five, and took his own life (Riedman & Densley, 2023). Just last month, five individuals, including four students, were shot at Morgan State University (Skene & Brumfield, 2023).
• Illinois colleges should unite to sign a zero-tolerance pledge regarding guns on campus.
• All faculty should receive annual training on campus security, including on concealed carry and other issues related to violence on campus, as well as on how to identify red flags in students.

• Colleges should provide easy and confidential red flag reporting mechanisms.
• A portion of mental health funding should be dedicated to identification and early intervention with students who pose threats of violence.
