Ethical considerations are so important because it is the one of the key foundations of the legitimacy of research. Without this, it brings into question of the researchers and the research conducted. As stated in Dowling and Whiteman (2020):

"Ethical coherence, which is required to some extent when we write up our research, or otherwise account for our actions if we are perhaps to convince others of our competence, becomes undermined by the potential ambiguity of contingency (Whiteman, 2010). With this, comes troubling insecurity in respect of ethical issues."

More importantly, it will dilute the facts. This is especially detrimental if other people are unknowingly utilizing research deemed unethical to back up their claims. Paid research as opposed to unpaid research could be construed as being biased. For example, sponsorship by companies may seem to be charitable; however, it is a possibility that they are expecting particular results that would be a competitive advantage. Of course, this doesn't mean that the person conducting the research will conduct their research unethically. No matter what, their reputation is at stake whether it is conducted unethically or ineffectively.

In my military career I have seen plenty of ethical issues; however, Airmen are taught ethics. I can only speak about my days in the Air Force in which we were taught ethics from the beginning - the Air Force Core Values. Later on in our career, we are taught that there is a difference in values (are deeply imbedded) and opinions (can be more easily change). Also, is the prioritization of what we are to value: first, principles; second, mission; and third people. This is not to say people come in last. I could explain this, but it'll take a while. The Air Force base (or use to) its ethics as to be equal unilaterally for all Airmen and it is duty based. Does it happen all the time? No, because people are people and to err is human.
