Requirements Management -- specifically targeting this core component of the MIS management arena. The five goals of this critical process area define an important relationship between the engineering of requirements and the managing of projects. As industrial engineers, we're often in a role where we oversee and coordinate projects that cross multiple engineering disciplines. Many people on our projects are working to elicit and define requirements at different business and technical levels, and the needs and plans for a project need to change as those requirements are discovered or change. Without solid requirements, systems tend to be low quality; and without effective project management, they often aren't completed at all. This is the main reason why this process area is defined as needed at the lower staged level of the CMMI.
