Research Scenario 3. (10 marks) Researchers investigated patients' willingness to be discharged home with a vascular access device in situ as dependent upon the vascular access device type. They predicted that participants who currently had a central tunneled/ un-tunneled vascular device would be more willing to be discharged home with that device than patients who did not have a device in situ or had a peripheral line in situ. Research question : Is there a difference in willingness to be discharged home with a vascular access device based upon having no device currently in situ, a peripheral line in situ, or a central tunneled or un-tunneled vascular device?
a) Conduct the appropriate descriptive statistical analyses to answer this research question. Include in the descriptive analyses, all outputs, (include graphs: histograms/bar graphs, for the descriptives) with legends as required and discuss findings of descriptives. state the independent and dependent variable with level of measurement.
b) inferential - Include each step of the hypothesis test.
1. State the null hypothesis
2. State the research hypothesis.
3. Identify the target population
4. Identify the sample population
5. Identify the independent variable or factor and level of measure
6. Identify the dependent variable and the level of measure.
7. State the test to be done and provide your rationale
8. State the level of significance for the test
9. State your choice of a one or two tailed test and Provide your rationale.
10. Conduct the test in excel and report the calculated test statistic, for either the one-tailed or two- tailed test, as per your choice above `You must include the excel output.
11. Calculate and state the degrees of freedom for this test and explain how that number was derived ie show your calculation
12. State the critical value to be exceeded by the calculated t test statistic, for either the one-tailed or two- tailed test as per your choice above, from the excel output.
13. Compare the calculated t test statistic with the level of significance at which the test statistic fell under the curve; and make a decision to accept or reject the null hypothesis
14. State the p value at which the test statistic was located under the curve.
15. Report as test statistic score = , df = , p =
16. State 3 decisions: i) Are the results statistically significant? ii) Do you accept or reject the null hypothesis? iii) What do you conclude about the research hypothesis?
c) critical interpretation of the findings and limitations and discussion of implications for practice and research (the critical interpretation and implications are to include a discussion of any of the demographic data that you have analyzed in previous assignments: e.g. age, gender, etc as the data may be relevant to your interpretation of findings)
