Research the top three causes of death for a specific state in the union for year 2015. Your state is New Jersey. Using Center for Disease Control's (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control database (WISQARS) (http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/dataRestriction_lcd.html) extract information for the following demographics:

1. Gender: Male vs Female 2. Age Group: 1-15, 16-30, 31-45, 46-60, 61 and over 3. Ethnicity: White, Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander and Other (combined).

The data is to be extracted, downloaded and compiled in an excel spreadsheet. Each demographic data is to be stored in a separate tab. For each demographic subgroup create: i. a pie chart for the leading three causes of death for that subgroup ii. a bar chart comparing the type and number of deaths for each subgroup and total combined number of deaths for each subgroup. Each chart must have a title and legend (at the bottom of the chart), with the pie charts having percentages displayed next to its "slices". (see examples below)

The assignment consists of two sections: a research paper and a powerpoint presentation.

For the research paper, create word document and explain the data and analyze the extracted information, making observations between different subgroups. Discuss for each demographic if the causes and the rates of death are comparable.Explain and give possible reasons for any similarities and differences. Discuss if people in different sub groups are dying of the same causes and at the same rates. Are there any similarities in type or ratio? Explain how so. You may create other graphs of your choosing to bolster your arguments. Include all of your graphs in the document to back up your findings and explanations. Finally, create Powerpoint presentation that presents the data and discusses the extracted information; include the graphs and findings in your presentation.

The Word document must be double spaced with one inch margins in Times New Roman font with 11 point size. Each chart may not be larger than 4 inches in either width or height and the text must be "wrapped tight" around it. There should be no more than 2 charts per page. The number of pages should not exceed 40 page, but may not be fewer than 20. You must have a references page (at the end) in addition to your text adhering to the MLA style. The references do not count for the page limit. You must have a title (Times New Roman, 16pt, bold), number you pages (bottom right) and place the title followed by your last name (only!) as footer for each page. Check your spelling and grammar before submitting your paper. A paper copy is to be handed in at class time and an electronic copy of the paper and the spreadsheet are to be "submitted" to class blackboard site. The assignment will be considered incomplete if both submission conditions are not satisfied on time.

The Powerpoint presentation must have a no fewer than 15 slides. For each data group should include a table with the data and the accompanying graph(s) with bullet points explaining the findings for that data set. Your last slide(s) must contain a set of finding that you have extracted from the data. Each slide must have a title, subtitle, footer (with your name and slide number) that is in a size easy to read. The overall presentation must have a theme with slides having timed transition between them. One started, the presentation should "play" without intervention for no less than 3 minutes but no more than 5 minutes. At least half of the slides should have animation effects.
