A contingency table (also called crosstabs or two-way table) is a special type of frequency distribution table where two variables are shown simultaneously. Contingency tables are used in statistics to summarize the relationship between two or more categorical (i.e., nominal level) variables.

Upon the completion of data collection for your project, create a contingency table to provide an overall sense of the association (or lack of association) between your variables. The process of organizing your data in this way will aid you, as it will serve as the starting point for a chi-square analysis of your data. Please note that your raw data should not be included in the Results section but may be submitted in the Appendix of your completed research project report.
