Researchers are interested in lead-based paint exposure and the development of cancer later in life. They identified 1200 adults who reported living in houses, as children, that were built before 1978 (before lead-based paint was banned for residential use) and after 1978 (no lead paint). Specifically, 656 lived in houses with lead-based paint, of which 213 developed cancer at some time in their life, the remaining 544 lived in house without lead-based paint, of which 201 developed cancer at some time in their life.
